A Community Open House was held in Palenque Costa Arriba, Colon, on June 12, 2015 by Open Blue. The purpose of the Open House was to strengthen ties in the communities where we operate in Panama. It is important for us to have this ongoing connection with the communities, to learn about their needs and to understand any concerns they may have about our operations.
Open Blue staff set up displays on the different parts of the business and there were lots of fun activities and things to look at. We are starting a database of available workers and collected thirty one applications for potential upcoming jobs. We served cobia in a couple of different ways for everyone to try the fish for themselves. There were 170 children and approx. 150 adults who attended the Open House coming from Miramar, Viento Frio, Palenque, Cuango, Nombre de Dios, La Union Santeña and La Linea.
The local communities in the Costa Arriba region where we operate are important to our company. Our local employees live in these communities and the continued health and well-being of the community members is important to us. We contribute to the communities in the areas where we farm in several ways beyond our employment and purchasing of local goods and supplies. These are education support and scholarships, supplying drinking water wells, and other community projects.
We are collecting feedback and will follow up on the suggestions we received. We plan to have another Open House in early January, 2016 and look forward to our ongoing discussions with these important people.
