Open Blue, the first ASC-certified Cobia producer, was awarded the Seafood Excellence Global special prize for convenience in the 2018 Seafood Excellence Awards announced at Seafood Expo Global (SEG) for their sashimi-grade fillet. Seafood Expo Global is the largest seafood trade event in Europe drawing more than 26,000 seafood professionals from over 100 countries and more than 1,650 exhibiting companies.

Open Blue received the prize for their frozen IVP sashimi-grade Open Blue Cobia fillet in the Horeca category (Hotel/Restaurant/Cafe) for food service entries. A distinguished panel of retail and food service seafood buyers and industry experts selected the winners following a live tasting at the Brussels-based show. Open Blue’s Cobia Sashimi Fillet was chosen as the winner for its convenience.
Visitors to Seafood Expo Global can taste Open Blue Cobia for themselves at the Panama Pavilion, Hall 11, Booth 2701 as the winner of ‘Top Chef Panama’, Chef Hernan Correa will be creating delicious Cobia dishes for visitors to sample.
Open Blue has achieved several key standards; successfully completing audits for Global Gap, Best Aquaculture Practice (BAP), British Retail Consortium (BRC), ISO 9001 (2015) and Friend of the Sea and was the first Cobia producer globally to achieve the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification.
