Best Aquaculture Practices – Four Stars for Open Blue

Open Blue has become the world’s first Cobia supplier to achieve four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), denoting that the company’s processing plants, farm sites, hatcheries and feed mills are all BAP certified. Open Blue is now eligible to offer four-star BAP cobia following verification that it purchases feed from two BAP-certified feed mills Biomar Aquacorporation Products S.A. in Costa Rica and Vitapro S.A. in Peru.

This announcement comes less than seven months after Open Blue first achieved BAP certification for its processing plant, farm and hatchery. The BAP standards address environmental and social responsibility, fish welfare, food safety and traceability. ‘This achievement is a direct reflection of Open Blue’s commitment to provide safe and sustainably produced seafood to our customers.’ says Chris Perry, CEO Open Blue.

About BAP:

A division of the Global Aquaculture Alliance, Best Aquaculture Practices is an international certification program based on achievable, science-based and continuously improved performance standards for the entire aquaculture supply chain — farms, hatcheries, processing plants and feed mills — that assure healthful foods produced through environmentally and socially responsible means. BAP certification is based on independent audits that evaluate compliance with the BAP standards developed by the Global Aquaculture Alliance.
